My Pedagogy
My personal pedagogy includes an energetic and challenging
mien with an attentive eye to the biomechanical details of
proper posture and alignment.  It is my intention to instruct
and inspire my students toward an exuberance of wellbeing
while encouraging proper exercise form with attention to
effective safety parameters.  I seek to challenge my students
and at the same time encourage them to listen to the
particular needs of their own bodies.  I believe that finding
appropriate options for the many individuals we instruct is
our responsibility as teachers.  For example hinging slightly
forward at the hip, bending the knees as much or as little as
is necessary, centering the leverage of the body, distributing
the weight evenly, as is wise when performing squats, is also
an excellent way to introduce a safe descent into forward
flexion or uttanasana in yoga, that not only aids in protecting
the back but insures positive conditioning habits conducive
to longevity.

I believe an excellent teacher knows her student body and
finds ways to motivate and educate their particular needs
and desires.  As experts in the field we give them a little of
what they desire and we balance it out with what they need.
Since we are all different with unique ways of learning and
assimilating information finding multiple ways of
communicating to illustrate essential principles is important.
As professional fitness enthusiasts and group class leaders
we use the physicality of our bodies to demonstrate
particular exercises and activities.
At times we perform movements along with our students and
we provide verbal and visual cues as immediate feedback to
help them stay on track as they continue to work and
contemplate their own efforts in achieving their fitness
objectives.

We also inhabit our bodies as tangible models embodying the
characteristics and qualities of fitness, health and wellness.
The way I think I can grow most effectively in my teaching
practice today is to attend more imaginatively to conceptual
descriptions of experiential being and fitness practice,
seeking to utilize clear language that is explicit and
inspirational, inclusive and transformational, to encourage all
participants in their personal exercise journeys of discovery
and awareness. Helping ourselves and our students to
connect to energetic inspirations of vital present-centered
experience and awareness is facilitated through purposeful
direction and guidance.  Healing, rejuvenation, excitement
towards living well, and the joys of physical transformation are
most inclined to occur in anatmosphere that is imaginatively
inviting, respectful, and attentive to the needs and aspirations
of all participants. Inclusive, explicit, creative, communication
addresses this need.  I desire and hope to create such an
inviting atmosphere in my private teaching sessions and
classes.  Fostering such a welcoming and creative
atmosphere to inspire transformation and growth is my most
cherished aspiration as a fitness and mind body teacher today.
