Hello & Welcome, my name is Maureen
I practice a form of experiential movement awareness. I call it SOMAKINETICS, a form of body mind fitness. I teach multi-level group classes and private instruction in a variety of somakinetic forms that incorporate elements of dance, yoga, pilates, and tai chi. Over the years I have come to value the many insights these myriad experiences offer. I believe each one is part of a holistic pattern of kinesthetic awareness and somatic being designed to engage one’s whole self and to evoke a deeper appreciation of who we are living in a vital human body, a powerful, super-sensible vessel of cellular knowledge, spontaneous healing and intuitive wisdom.
When my clients ask me what they should do to get fit and stay in shape I tell them “just keep moving.” Moving is essential to life. Our bodies were designed to move. When our bodies cease to move, when oxygen ceases to flow in and out of our expanding and contracting lungs and the blood ceases to flow through our pulsating hearts and minds, guess what, we are no longer alive. So to keep our bodies and selves as healthy and as vital as possible it is necessary to keep moving. We need to move and to keep moving we need to find the joy in moving. Moving with joy is vital to our health.
To move vitally with joy means embracing the pleasurable sensation of exercising all the integral parts of our physical being including the spirit that dwells within. That means engaging the experience of moving with our total selves including not only our physical bodies but our curious creative minds as well as our pleasure seeking souls. Moving joyfully is a holistic endeavor that embraces all aspects of our physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual well being.
In order to move joyfully and to appease our pleasure seeking soul we must find an activity that we like to do and then do it regularly with a sense of dedication, discipline, and gratitude. We need to make a commitment to ourselves to do what our bodies and spirits need and want. We must put our hearts and souls into it to find the joy that is there. If we find something that we need but do not enjoy, we will not stay with it for very long. So finding the joy is essential. Keeping it will spill over into all aspects of our lives. Whatever your goals I can help you achieve them. I have the insight, the methods, and the motivation to help you realize your potential and holistic well being.
